Youtube: Is it too late to start?
Ever since Youtube started garnering some traction back in 2006, people have always said it's too late to start a Youtube Channel. Either the market is super saturated or the returns take too long or something of the like. While it may take more work now than it did when the platform was fresh, it still requires the same things as other platforms:
- Consistency
- Creativity
- Confidence
(No I did not intend for all of those to be C words.) But anyways, it's true. You nee to know what you're doing and why you're starting up a youtube channel (or anything for that matter). Once you've nailed that down, it shouldn't be too hard to dream up some wild ideas if you're passionate about it. Creativity isn't a difficult subject because no one thinks the way you do. And finally, confidence. Don't be afraid to RESPECTFULLY share your content. Be proud to share what you do, especially when you do something new. You'll realize very quickly that you're content will benefit from you caring about it.
Consistency will allow people to find you easily and help you carve your place on the internet. Imagine you had a shop, and it opened sometimes on Fridays at 9 p.,m., maybe Mondays at Noon, and every other Wednesday at 8 a.m.. That's a crappy store. But if your store was open every Sunday at 9 a.m., then it's ingrained in everyone that this channel should be putting out a video at that time each week. Before pursuing any other ambitious ideas, this is what you should focus on first. It's a discipline check that'll quickly tell you whether you're meant to do this or not. If you can't keep up with a schedule you laid out yourself, then you're gonna have a hard time. Start putting out one video a week for a month. If you can get into the groove of that, then you can move on to the channel art, fancy intros, and confidently put up a schedule.
But after that, everything else is all up to how you'd like to present yourself. No one can tell you what your style, humor, or skill is. Always aim to learn more skills and follow people who also fit in your niche. As you grow (and be prepared for it to take a while, I always expect he worst), you'll be able to expand your network, collaborate, and make an impact on the community you're in/ made.
So yeah it's a lot work, but any platform is. If you're gonna start something, don't do it halfway, and put your best into it.
